Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
I’m reading it on my iPhone because I can hold the phone with one hand while I feed baby. This is another one I’ve tried to read before but never finished. Since it’s one many people have told me is a “must-read,” I’m determined to finish it even if baby grows into solid foods before I finish.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
I tried to read it years ago and got a third of the way through and stopped. This time, I’m determined to finish it even though my reading time has been seriously limited by having a newborn in the house.

My Childhood in Books
First and Second Grade: My mom started reading Little House in the Big Woods to my brother and me, and then she stopped reading it. I don’t know why…busyness, I suppose, but I wasn’t happy with being left hanging in the middle of the book. I wanted to know more about Laura. One day I saw the book sitting on the end table, and I wondered if I could read it on my own. It was a...

On the Outside:
The cover promises, “Wild escapes. A desperate journey. And the ghastly Fangs of Dang.” So…does the story deliver?
First Lines:
In this sequel to On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, we get no introductions to the world of Aerwiar but instead jump right into the story with this opening:

A review of On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson
On the Outside:
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but it’s on the cover that I often find a reason to read a book. On this book’s cover, the name Andrew Peterson was reason enough for me to want to read it. He is one of my favorite singer/songwriters; his music is True, and though his music,...
a book blog
After a couple months of sitting on this tumblr thing, I may have finally decided what I’m going to do with it. After all, I can’t just be on tumblr and only use it for the group blog I contribute to, even if I do already have a website and blog elsewhere. I imagine that a lot of what I post here will also be posted on my website, but I’ll save only the bookish blogs for this...
